Going beyond basic email security testing, SE Labs evaluated Cisco Secure Email Threat Defense against advanced, business-focused attack scenarios, including Business Email Compromise (BEC) attacks that often contain no obvious malicious link or attachment. SE Labs also determined whether the service simply detected suspicious messages or actually prevented them from reaching users in a dangerous form.
While it may seem intuitive that all detected threats are stopped or blocked upon delivery of malicious emails, many email security products fail to do so, leaving businesses exposed. Cisco Secure Email Threat Defense takes the best approach and stops all threats that it detects. The test used real-world attack techniques inspired by SE Labs’ own threat intelligence on bad actor activity, alongside legitimate email to assess whether the service could block threats without unnecessarily disrupting normal business communication.
