All Press ReleasesThe latest results from SE Labs Endpoint Security Protection test, reveal that while many products delivered excellent protection, some still struggled with targeted attacks.
Only 30% of the twenty products tested achieved a perfect 100% Total Accuracy Score. These were Broadcom Symantec Endpoint Security, Kaspersky Endpoint Security, CrowdStrike Falcon and Trellix Endpoint Security in the enterprise category. And Kaspersky Small Office Security and Kaspersky Premium in the SMB and consumer categories, respectively.
Worryingly, 65% of the products tested failed to stop every targeted attack. While most missed only one or two attacks, one product allowed ten to succeed. Given that a single successful targeted attack can be enough to compromise a device or even an entire organisation, these results highlight the importance of consistent protection.
Simon Edwards, CEO of SE Labs, said: “These results show why endpoint testing has to look beyond whether a product simply recognises a malicious file. Targeted attacks are often preceded by reconnaissance, use bespoke or lightly modified tooling, and attempt to blend into normal user activity. The strongest protection comes from recognising that sequence and intervening before the attacker can progress.”
The SE Labs quarterly Endpoint Security Report assesses protection against the most common threats users face every day, alongside more targeted attacks designed to evade standard defences. The results provide consumers and businesses with a clear view of not only a product’s ability to block attacks but also its resilience against persistent, adaptive and motivated adversaries.
Enterprise Endpoint Security
Enterprise products produced the strongest results overall. Broadcom Symantec Endpoint Security, Kaspersky Endpoint Security and CrowdStrike Falcon achieved 100% Protection Accuracy Ratings, with Trellix Endpoint Security close behind at 99%. Sophos Endpoint Security scored 98% and Microsoft Defender Antivirus 96%. All six products achieved 100% Legitimate Accuracy Ratings and received SE Labs AAA awards.
Small Business Endpoint Security
Kaspersky Small Office Security achieved a 100% Protection Accuracy Rating and was the only small business product to block all of the targeted attacks. Products from Kaspersky, Sophos, Bitdefender and Microsoft received AAA awards, with Webroot receiving an AA award.
Home Anti-Malware
Home products also performed strongly against widespread threats, although targeted attacks created greater variation. Products from Kaspersky, McAfee, Avast, Norton, Sophos, Microsoft, Panda Dome and Scanguard received AAA awards, while products from Malwarebytes, TotalAV and Webroot received AA awards.
