Endpoint Upgrade
Client: Natural Resources
Problem: Considering upgrade of endpoint protection
Outcome: Saved significant money and simplified the security stack
Context:
The business was conflicted with choices of established but costly and clunky endpoint security solutions vs. an exciting new ‘AI’-powered solution. Microsoft’s own Windows-based solution was also considered a possible alternative.
Its existing multiple solutions were hard to manage. One in particular would cause headaches for the IT support department. The other was very well-established and considered a ‘safe’ but costly choice.
An aggressive new security company proposed its exciting machine learning product. It claimed this would be a more effective and more easily managed alternative to the existing product combination.
The client also considered switching to endpoint protection provided by Microsoft for less cost and centralised management.
SE Labs ran a private, independent test that compared the security efficacy of the well-established product with the new ‘next-generation’ and Microsoft alternatives. This test included targeted attacks designed to evade endpoint protection.
CEO Simon Edwards presented the results to the technical Board, provided further advice and answered questions. This contextual analysis provided greater value than simply sharing raw test result.
Security Policy Check
Client: Business Consultancy
Problem: Assessing existing security stack

Context:
The business had built a standard set of security tools and policies that it wanted to test against a particular approach to attack.
SE Labs ran a private, independent test using a full range of techniques used for this type of attack. Test systems were laptops provided by the client, configured exactly as for a regular user within the company.
The results proved that the combination of security products and their configuration mitigated the risk of the attack types in question.
Network Detection

Context:
The business was considering supplementing its Network Detection and Response (NDR) product.
Its existing solution required extensive work from the security operations team to detect and manage threats. The client sought a more manageable solution that might include the original product.
SE Labs ran a private, independent test that compared the security efficacy of the existing product with a number of alternatives requested by the client. This test included targeted attacks designed to evade network detection.
The results were so damning that the existing product was removed from the production network and the client demanded a refund from the security company.
Linux Anti-Virus Online

Context:
The business was building a Linux-based online infrastructure that required ‘anti-virus’ in order to comply with regulations.
SE Labs identified a number of possible solutions, at different cost levels, and ran a private, independent test that compared the security efficacy of the competing solutions using relevant threats.
