We spoke to Chief Technology Officer, Stefan Dumitrascu
For this month’s employee spotlight piece, we spoke to Chief Technology Officer, Stefan Dumitrascu.
How long have you been working at SE Labs?
I’ve been with SE Labs since the very beginning, contributing to building the technical infrastructure from day one. It’s been an incredible journey of eight years.
How did you hear about SE Labs? Why did you want to work here?
Simon, SE Labs Founder and CEO, approached me early on in this project, presenting a challenging and exciting opportunity for personal development. Beginning as a tester, with guidance from my mentor, I embraced the challenge and evolved within the organisation.
What’s the first thing you do when you start working every day?
Coffee – a non-negotiable ritual! On a more serious note, I ensure I’m well-informed about ongoing activities by checking my diary. Planning is key, even in the face of frequent changes.
What does a typical day look like for you?
While it varies, my day typically involves a blend of meetings, research, and, you guessed it, more meetings.
Tell us about a project you have worked on that you are particularly proud of.
Our EAS (Enterprise Advanced Security) programme has undergone significant evolution, progressing from initial Breach Response reports to EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) comparatives, NGFW (Next Generation Firewall) tests, and the exciting prospect of XDR (Extended Detection and Response) tests in the future. The journey has been marked by dedication, and there’s still more growth ahead.
Do you have any specific advice for anyone interested in a career in cybersecurity?
Focus on self-development, both in technical skills and “soft skills.” Practical experience often trumps certifications. Communication and public speaking, often overlooked in early education, can set candidates apart in this industry.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Dancing, video games, and puzzles are my go-to activities for relaxation and enjoyment.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself!
I ventured into the world of cyber security at the age of 17!
