SE LABS Ⓡ, the cyber security testing authority, announced today that Broadcom’s Carbon Black Cloud achieved a 100% total accuracy rating by detecting and protecting against ransomware in the largest known public test of its kind. During the test, SE Labs attempted to compromise target systems using popular techniques deployed by 15 different ransomware groups that featured 556 ransomware payload files with both known and unknown variants. The complete test results were published today in a new report, “Advanced Security Test Carbon Black Cloud.”
“When faced with the whole range of threats posed by ransomware, it’s essential for organisations to know if the products they use to protect their business stand up to scrutiny,” says Simon Edwards, CEO of SE Labs. “Our rigorous testing puts security products through extensive attack scenarios used by real hackers. Carbon Black Cloud’s exceptional results in this extremely challenging test should be congratulated.”
Ransomware Solutions Testing
SE Labs tested Broadcom’s Carbon Black Cloud against a wide range of ransomware attacks. These included recent, widely used ransomware payloads alongside new, never-before-seen variations. The test itself took two main approaches in assessing how effective the product was at enterprise ransomware protection by deploying both Deep and Direct Attacks.
Deep Attacks mimic how attackers breach large organisations by running full, advanced attacks against the target systems and by installing malware at the end of each attack. Direct Attacks enables SE Labs to see how well a product can identify ransomware that has already been analysed by security researchers, as well as new, never-before-seen variations that represent potential future attacks.
In the Direct Attack, SE Labs exposed target systems to ransomware files using realistic techniques, such as email social engineering attacks. Only a third of the files were known malware, while the remaining were new variants. Broadcom’s Carbon Black Cloud detected and blocked every single ransomware file, demonstrating its superior ability at proactive detection.
“Ransomware is costing organisations millions of dollars due to business disruption, incident response and recovery, and so much more. As a result, businesses need the ability to stop these attacks before they happen. Meeting SE Labs’ industry-recognized, exacting standards in such an extensive enterprise ransomware protection test is testament to Carbon Black Cloud’s advanced capabilities in securing businesses against this pervasive cybersecurity threat and other motivated targeted attacks,” says Adam Bromwich, Vice President, Engineering, Enterprise Security Group, Broadcom.
Broadcom’s Carbon Black Cloud achieved a Total Accuracy Rating of 100% in both Detection and Protection and was awarded the top AAA award for Advanced Security EDR Protection.
